TVA SPILL ALERT
In regard to the situation with the TVA spill we will be periodically updating this page to inform our citizens of the latest information that we know.
Although this incident did not take place inside the city limits of Harriman we are still keeping in close contact with the officials at TVA.  We were briefed on December 28th and learned that there are no immediate threats to the safety, health or well-being to the citizens of Harriman.  Harriman Utility crews have been working in the area to repair water, gas and sewer lines and have done so successfully.

Harriman Fire Dept. is exercising mutual aid with Midtown Volunteer Fire to aid in any way possible.

TVA is currently building two (2) Weir dams across the channel to the north and south of the spill to keep any of the contaminants from migrating up or downstream.  They have also placed "booms" in several areas to keep cenospheres (the substance on top of the water) from traveling any further.  I was also informed that the Coast Guard has closed off a portion of the Emory River so it will not be navigable at this time around the spill site.

Thank you,
Chris Mason
